Sasha Stiles

Sasha Stiles is a first-generation Kalmyk-American poet, artist and creative strategist working at the intersection of text and technology.

Stiles’ transmedia practice seeks to decipher the hidden language of the dawning Novacene, fusing elements of semiotics, translation, computer science, speculative design, visual poetry and conceptual art. She is known for binary-based works that challenge reductive thinking, merging biological and mechanical, analog and digital, historical and modern in explorations of transhuman communication and transcendent possibility. Many of her projects incorporate elements of nature, investigating nonhuman intelligence and the ethos of consciousness.

Her recent experiments with advanced natural language processing tools posit new modes of human-machine collaboration, and challenge what we think we know about cognition and creativity. As poetry mentor to BINA48, Stiles is engaged in shaping the literary mindfile of one of the world’s most advanced humanoid AI robots.

Stiles’ hybrid poetry and artwork has been exhibited, presented and published in analog and virtual realms; nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net; featured in the official Times Square app on Virtual New Year’s Eve; shown on the runway at New York Fashion Week; installed as land art; and recognized by creative visionaries including Judy Chicago and Stefan Sagmeister.

A future-facing polymath whose interests encompass art, literature, philosophy, identity and digital culture, Stiles also partners with organizations large and small to provide trends intelligence, creative strategy and unique content.

A graduate of Harvard and Oxford, Stiles lives just outside New York City with her husband and studio partner.
